My last blog of Juneathon, and it was good, brought me back into focus.
Targets; run more than Janathon - tick 60.2m over 60.1
run more each week than the last.... tick, 9.4, 12.34, 15.75, 17.2, (plus last 2 days 5.5)
run more than I cycle.. definite tick (helped by a week in London without a bike!)
bathroom scales to move.. well they didn't go the wrong way!
5 miles in 50, nope, not sure this will ever happen, and to be honest I'm beginning not to think of this as a goal anymore, I am just not built for speed!!!
I spent less time running (just) and covered more miles (just) which has gotta be a good thing!
Much less time cycling, more walking (that'll be London and marching practice then!).
No hockey - cross training in June... thank God!
So what next - Taunton 10k in September, target time for this 1hr 5mins
July target miles - 35
August target miles - 30 (10 days in Italy equals no running!)
September target miles - 50
Oct / Nov / Dec target miles - 30 (I'll be playing hockey aswell again by then!)
Janathon 2012 target miles - well actually I'm gonna make it easy and aim for a nice round figure of 100km. This is a 3.14km increase on Juneathon just done... BRING IT ON, see you all in January!

DONE IT!!
Junetahon is done!
An aching 3 miler and I've beaten Janathon's run total! Blog later.. there's marching band to do yet....

not too late for a run
Thought I wouldn't get out tonight. I had an email today from the research advisor and a meeting I had next week is now this Friday. I have a considerable amount of work to do before it! Unfortunately much as I love Juneathon, my career and Masters degree are important so I put in 2 hours of prep tonight, ate early and just managed to get out at 10pm. However, running late felt good, I was fast (for me) maybe because it was cooler, it was dark which always scares me a bit (ridiculous I know) or maybe I was just well fuelled from sausages and roast potatoes that I had for dinner earlier... yum yum!
So I have only 3 miles to do to beat Janathon. Tomorrow is tight for time with band rehearsal but so long as I leave work on time I should be ok, there is always double running in case of emergency, though I don't normally get home from band til 10:30ish!
fingers crossed that I'm not too sore tomorrow, must admit my quads today felt like they did back on January 2nd, well ok not quite that bad!!

week 4 completed, one target achieved.
Only 2 days left, four weeks done and I managed to run more this week than last again! Wowza I've had a monster 3 days running 12.45miles making a total of 16.9miles in week 4. I've only 5.5miles to go to beat my Janathon target... yes it is all about the mileage tonight. I'm sure I can do this now, although I could do with an easy day I won't be getting it... that'll teach me for those other lazier than necessary days!
Gig last night was great, but then I could have told you it was going to be fab... Bon Jovi never fail to deliver on stage, bouncing on the spot for 2.5 hrs has gotta burn off some more calories, not that the scales are moving.. more muscle, must be.... lol Jon certainly sweated some last night running about the stage with his knee braced up after a collateral ligament injury last week.. he's still got it going on! Here's my view!
As I was running tonight (in a vest) I thought of new targets, new motivations and wish I had a dog for dogjogs like lena but alas my work life balance doesn't permit it. I have agreed to do the Taunton 10k at the end of September which will keep me running through July and August. I felt quite righteous and healthy earlier watering my home grown veg in my running kit as I cooled down!
Time for bed, my body needs sleep, and a cup of tea!
PS Happy Birthday to the running obsessed boyfriend (still injured bless him!).

keep the Faith
I can do this!!!!! another good run done, pee'd it down with rain just as we ran the last 200metres... loved it, the bloke did not but tough! Juneathon is my target not his... he was too chicken to enter, and is also sat next to me as I type this!
I have enough legs left in me to get my most of my janathon target, think the 5 miles in 50 is a long term goal that I can't push to in a month (apparently I have a monotonous cadence!). Other targets all set except the bathroom scales one, but I'm past caring about that once again... stupid things!
best be off, but a message to all Juneathoners all there... Never Say Die or you'll fall off a Lost Highway and you can't spend your life Living on a Prayer!
Have a Nice Day!

double effort
Scorchio today! Got out at 10 this morning after a well needed lie in for a long and slow 3 miler, boy it was hot already.... But I had decided on a different plan to get the miles up, rather than knacker myself in a oner, I've run twice today. Apparently this is not good for me, I think he's probably right but it's not a long term idera for me, just a means of meeting my Juneathon targets. So after a day in eth garden, getting rid of the hedge we trimmed last weekend, shopping and gardening to sort out my veggies I did another 1.6miles. Felt really good, I definitely run better in the evening.
4 days to go, got the day off tomorrow to see Bon Jovi in Bristol so will need to run before I go... can't wait, my hommage to Jon and the boys... yeah!

too tired today
Another long day at work, my legs are weary and my eyes are struggling to stay open.
I managed to get out earlier for a run but it hurt. My knees are beginning to pay the price of Juneathon. Always had problems with my knees, not sure why Janathon didn't cause me too much bother, possibly more rest days with cycling and hockey instead of pavement pounding? Anyway, I got out, better than no miles but I will need to pull some back at the weekend now.
Must dash, have uniform to iron before gig tomorrow night with the band, even my parents are coming to watch so I best look smart!

wet and windy Wednesday
First day of Glastonbury so what did I expect... really windy and some serious showers, thankfully got in and out between two stonkers! Nice day at work, even managed to sit down for lunch (rare) and catch up with some Wimbledon action.
Tomorrow and Friday are going to be tight for time running wise with band commitments, hopefully I will get away from work on time and be able to do a minimum of 2 miles, fingers crossed for just that little bit more. Nothing really too exciting to blog about tonight. Off to watch more tennis on the telly!

back on track...
Better run today, put in more than minimum mileage needed and feeling good physically. Still feeling a bit low emotionally and being back at work isn't great either. I must keep foused on running for June however. Glasto starts tomorrow, I was going but withdrew and lost my deposit back in April for social reasons. Juneathon at Glastonbury would have been damn nigh impossible so I will have to use my loss of festival going to positive effect.... So week three is nearly over, I've managed to run more this week than last week again. Gotta be a good weekend for me to make it more than this is week 4 but keep them crossed for me...
week 1; 9.4 miles
week 2; 12.34 miles
week 3; 15.75miles
total 37.49miles so far. 22.8 to go!

recovery run needed
Gentle sub mile recovery run in the bag, still not feeling great. Had a dreadful night's sleep for one reason and another which has left me feeling less than chipper today. Hopefully will get some decent ZZZZs later and back on track tomorrow. It could be worse, I might not have bothered with a run tonight at all! On target to hit 14 miles this week with a standard 2.5 run tomorrow, this will leave week 4 and the last 2 days a big push to make my 60, but hopefully I can do it.
Off to band now, first time in a fortnight, hoepfully can remember what to do!

Pushed it one step too far?
Not feeling well!
Been running with the boyfriend, we did just over 5 miles in 53.42. Felt OK once home but someone thought it was a good idea to do some sit ups etc..... think I pushed myself too hard, finally rehydrated and after showering and rehydrating the tomatoes I came over all funny.. culminating in a further dehydration episode! Oh dear....
Have definitely clogged back some missing miles from yesterday but think I am may have to ease off tomorrow now. Wait and see, feels like a bad hangover, wish it were as simple, dehydration and hypoglycaemia me thinketh, night night!

manic day, shopping, cooking and fabulous dinner with friends, oh and 30ft of hedge trimming!!! Failed at a proper run but did a last minute dash to end of road and back after washing up!
must try harder tomorrow!

soggy effort
My attempts at a huge get back in the saddle cycle ride this evening were severely dampened by the rain, and a deflated rear tyre after 10 days of not being used. My trek across London to get the train home was exercise enough. Getting from Tooting to Paddington equals Northern plus Bakerloo lines... guess what... both had significant service disruption so had 3 changes, lots of stairs to lug case up and down and lots of waiting! Course finished dead on midday, I declined filling in an evaluation sheet, think something more formal will be going direct to the university next week!!! Made it to Paddington in good time and glad to be home.
Planning a good 3+miler tomorrow, friends round for dinner, probably lots of wine, recovery run Sunday!

fast and furious
AAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's better. This course is doing my head in. Another lecture cancelled and given by the outdated non specialist course leader. I interjected a couple of times to gently question things that I knew were just incorrect. I feel for the students on the course who don't have my background, they are being grossly misinformed. If it weren't for the fact that she has to mark my assignment essay I would have been more obviously black and white with her!!! I'm not alone in my frustrations and I think the general feedback will be very negative from all involved.
Every grey cloud has a silver lining and a 3.5 hour lunch break is one of them. Caught up with some more admin and most importantly got a fast and furious 2.5 mile run in. This means I won't be rushing tonight before heading to the Barbican to enjoy some Mozart... grabbing a bit of culture!
Have decided (despite my saying no slacking) that tomorrow is my rest day as I really have pushed myself since being away. I will go for a decent cycle to keep up with the rules but give the knees a night off! Did just over minimum requirement mileage today so will ai for 3 miles Saturday and Sunday.
Best eat lunch at last, my 3.5 hour break is nearly over!!!!

Parklife
What was it Damon and the Blur boys sang back in the '90s... all you joggers who go round and round..... I can see how they came to this observation after tonights run. I'm using Tooting Bec common as my main running site this week. It seems a popular location for afterwork running. There are lots of paths that criss cross the grass so you can add bits on, take short cuts, or just go round and round and round and round. I passed 3 or 4 runners at least twice as we went in opposite directions. I managed a fabulous 4.2 miles tonight, my longest run of Juneathon yet. I had time on my hands (or feet..... teehee!) tonight so took advantage and gave week 3 a really good mileage boost. I felt strong throughout, I feel happy with the time and got back to my hotel just as the impending grey clouds that had hovered overhead since 3pm finally opened... good timing!
Now officially half way through Janathon I have taken stock of achievements so far.
Wk 1 mileage total 9.4
Wk 2 mileage total 12.34
15 day (halfway) mileage total 25.94
Basic maths; 15 more days and I must total more than 60.1miles. Average of 2.3miles per day needed from now on in, no slacking or minimal effort days. Rest days on my bike allowable but will need to time them appropriately to meet the week on week build up target. I can see that once again, just like Janathon, Juneathon has gripped me, sucked me in and given me a new focus!

getting better
Another good run, and today was a little bit better study wise, all bar the last session which was truly dreadful! I did manage a bit of celeb spotting around the hospital too, although obviously I can't say who.. or can I???? hmmm.... does the hypocratical oath and patient confidentiality guidance of the GMC prevent me from saying who I saw in M&S at St Georges hospital? or what they were buying? (falafel and olives) oh well... she smiled back!
Hot today and out with riotstar again tonight... such a decadent social life! Kept it quick and pushed myself to a good 2.5miler. Certainly topped last weeks mileage. Next week will be a challenge, and week 4 is gonna be evil! Almost halfway though, and loving it.

Juneathon targets
Thoroughly diablical first day of course. Administrative cock ups left right and centre, lecturers with out of date inaccurate data, deep joy! Thankfully we finished early and I had a good 3.2m run around the common before curry and catch up with my dear friend G.
I thought it was about time I set myself some targets! I had targets in Janathon that I managed to achieve 4 out of 5 of. To keep it simple I will endeavour to keep them similar
1 Run more than 60.1 miles in June (60.1 = total for Janathon)
2 Run more than I cycle (not gonna be hard, as not cycling to work 7 days this month due to study leave etc)
3 5 miles in 50 minutes... Janathon's elusive target....
4 Get those bathroom scales shifting again... professional leave eating / drinking may put pay to this however!
5 Run more each week than the week before, running Wed-Tue inc. as June started on a Wednesday ( new target since Janathon, keep me form slacking!)
Week 1 total running distance 9.4 miles
Week 2 miles so far with one day to go 9.84... get in!!!!!

Great weekend
Sunday night and I'm in my little hotel room surveying a good weekend.
Friday was a lovely night out with Riotstar, some seriously tasty food after our run. We were good and got up Saturday morning to do the same lap of the park. I'm not a morning person and that includes running, had to let her go off infront as I was struggling a bit, but still she kept my pace quicker than normal. Pleased with another sub 10 minute pace over 2 miles plus.
Headed to Portsmouth yeserday for a hen do, lots of daft dancing in cheezy nightclub til something just past 2am! back in London today and off up to Wembley to "The summertime ball". Cue 70,000 radio listeners, J-Lo, The Wanted, Cee-Lo Green etc etc oh... and the rain! Nice to catch up with my Nepalese trekking buddies. Getting a run in before getting up there wasn't possible so as I had my trainers on I ran up Wembley Way to the turnstile from the tube station and back down again on completion... social commuter running! Perfect.
Course starts tomorrow, lookd tedious, but hours aren't long so plenty time for a decent run afterwards then meeting another frined for more socialising! Gotta love study leave!

Running with riotstar
Another succesful day of juneathon. Conference and AGM completed I headed into the capital to catch up with friends and take leave from my study leave.
Have just had a lovely run with riotstar. We have known each other for over 2/3rds of our lives, and thankfully unlike high school PE, there was no heckling by the games mistress and even more thankfully no gym skirts! I now believe though that I may be underestimating my run distances.... The pace felt a bit quicker than normal tonight but not that much quicker when I look at the analysis view... 9.12 minute miles and over 2 miles run! Evidently the tracking device used is a bit more accurte than the map tracker thingy I use on runningfreeonline.. albeit that it's consistent.
Regardless, had fun and feel good and now out for dinner and maybe a few drinkies... well, she is my oldest and dearest friend after all!!!

Change of scenery
How lovely it is to have a change of scenery when out for a run, particularly when it means taking in views of the Thames, Big Ben, St Pauls, London Bridge and the Globe Theatre...
Had to be quick in between conference and dinner but I really enjoyed my riverside jog, lots of likeminded exercisers out pounding the sunny London pavements, but way too many French school kids oblivious to anyone else but themselves and their mate Jean-Luc!
Conference today was excellent and we're out for dinner shortly, the pecan pie at lunchtime has just been rectified, the chocolate tart I intend to eat in a few hours will have to be worn off tomorrow! I might even go out before breakfast tomorrow depending on bed time, would be nice to run that route again, maybe add on an extra bridge?

running rest day
Another dreadful day at work, not enough staff, some of those that were there are less than useless, too many patients, too much paperwork, I do love the NHS!!!
Home via the garden centre to pick up some more compost, I've put the tomatoes and last courgette plant out in the open now at last.. they must fend for themselves whilst I'm away.... pray for rain and sunshine!
Managed a good fast cycle tonight. Wind in my face uphill, helping me along downhill.....
Nice thai takeaway and a glass of red just settling in my belly, best I pack for the next few days! London pavements beware.. I'm on my way!

tidy hair, tidy run, kitchen is a bomb site!
Just in from a tidy two miler. Better day at work, got my haircut at lunchtime, hairdresser wasn't too chuffed about my shoving a cycle helmet over my newly styled barnet to cycle back to the hospital but hey... it's another few miles clocked up!!
Not going to be cycling much for the foreseeable. Off to London on Thursday for 9 days of conferences, catching up with friends and courses, via a hen party in Portsmouth. Fitting running in will be tricky some days, particularly when staying with friends or at hotels with colleagues on dinner schedules. Thankfully one of my friends is responsible for getting my into the Janathon-Juneathon thing in the first place so is well aware of my antics! The rest will understand, and if they don't I will tell them I'm getting fit again for my 3 race for life events in 8 days this summer that I'm doing with an all girl marching band... and swiftly suggest they might like to sponsor me! Might go out for a cycle tomorrow night instead of a run just to give my body a change of exercise and it's drive to work day too... hope for sunshine so I can have the roof down!
Now I best tidy the house...

mixed effort today
Horrid day at work, and then a parking fine because I didn't read the small print on the sign... grrrrrrrrr!!!
Normally cycle to work but drove from the bloke's house and left car in what I thought was a clever place to park but alas no! boooo....
Marching practice was good tonight, back to the usual windswept tarmac at the air station and we covered more ground as we get to know the routine better, less stops, more run throughs. This is the first of our marching display pieces.... if you're interested?? Got home and decided couldn't really count the day's efforts so far so just put on my trainers and legged it down the road and back, a whole 1/4 mile but I sprinted 100%... which is no mean feet for me!

That's more like it!!!
Much better!
Had a great walk to the zoo today, spent a few hours wandering around looking at the wildlife then walked home. Favourite, probably the orangutans. The elephant looked sad and lonely on her own, unlike the beautiful creatures I was lucky enough to mess about with in a river in Nepal back in March.
Anyway, been for a proper run, including lots of hills as the boyfriend doens't live anywhere flat! Managed just over 2 miles in a relatively good time for the incline... now going to have some scran and then off to see Pirates 4... arrrrrhhhhh!
Juneathon has finally started for me...

day 4 and I'm struggling with Juneathon :-(
This is bonkers, way too hot for running....
Yesterday was hard, I went to work early, had a very efficient but reduced clinic then drove 75 miles for a funeral. It was hot, wearing a suit and obviously being emotional wasn't nice. It was a beautiful service though, perfect for Jo. Afterwards I did another 100 miles to the boyfriend's house. Traffic delays everywhere, still felt hot and bothered and was running late for my best friend's 40th birthday meal but I just sneaked in a quick run, logged and blogged via my phone en route so as not to fail!
Today I had no enthusiasm to run whatsoever, the bloke it out playing his sax at a gig so I'm home alone at his house, I managed a quick 10 minues round the block earlier but I felt dreadful. I am considering riotstar's approach and getting up uber early to combat the heat, but tomorrow it is scheduled to rain... thunder infact.. bring it on! I was glad I did get out but I'm covering no distance, although I'm definitely building up a sweat!
Hopefully tomorrow I might manage 2 miles....

FYI
FYI, 45 minutes of marching practice up and down a bit of airfield tarmac (AKA Zulu hard standing) results in 1282 paces. Roughly translates to 1/2 mile (pedo not set up for marching pace length) at my estimation. Doesn't sound like a lot but that does involve some halts, going round corners, a bit of standing around waiting for the trombones to understand and the clarinets to pick up their music!! Good exercise anyway, marching and playing is not quite as tiring as running but it has it's moments....
I wore shorts!!!!
day 2 successfully completed but I must apologise to the people of Somerset for exposing my milk bottle white legs to you this evening.... with only one pair of 3/4 running tights I had to wear shorts, way to hot to wear longs.....
same run as yesterday, same time (not surprising given the higher temp out there, still in 20s as 6pm!)
off to marching band practice now.. going to wear my pedo and see how many steps.. well come on, I know I'm not going to win Juneathon but every step counts?!! ;-)

off and running
Not long, not fast but after last weeks aches and pains I wanted to gauge the potential of how juneathon is gonna go. Hopefully it'll be ok as no niggles... it's warm for running tho, almost prefer the subzero temps of janathon!!! Nice to see some familiar names from the beginning of the year back jogging logging and blogging.. good luck everyone.
tonights logged run is here but really... it's nothing impressive. Same rules apply to juneathon as did to janathon for me, extra activity, preferably running, everyday with logging and blogging.
must eat dinner, hank marvin and Britain has not got talent is on!

great excuse to get my arse back into gear!
Last day of May. Juneathon starts tomorrow...
Having run my way through January, become obsessive about it, picked up injuries, bought new kit, completed races and shed a few inches I slackened off in spring. After a trip to Nepal in March I returned home unwell and it took me a month or so to get myself medically fit again. I've been out running at least once a week for the last three weeks but need to kick start myself and what better way than Juneathon.
My ROF - running obsessed friend from Janathon is now my ROB - running obsessed boyfriend, and I am trying to persuade him to Juneathon with me :-) He is very busy with work tho so I think he'll cop out of the blogging and logging!
Right, will blog and log again tomorrow... good luck to all juneathoners...
